Alicia Vikander plays the iconic Lara Croft in this origin story of sorts. Featuring a fresh take on the titular star, the film starts off in the wake of her father’s puzzling disappearance. After the better part of a decade, she gets a lead to what might have happened to her old man. Tracing his journey to an uncharted island, she winds up being captured by a shifty organisation which calls itself Trinity. It becomes obvious that the reason for their years-long stay on the island has been solely to locate and unearth a mythical power in order to weaponise it, but only Lara’s father knew exactly where it is housed. Faced with the threat of certain death, the detained Lara must untangle the knots of her predicament, while exposing the fate of her long-lost father.
