Fresh out of Harvard Law School, Bryan Stevenson is a gifted young defence attorney who sets his sights on defending those that have been wrongly condemned. After founding the Equal Justice Initiative in Alabama, Stevenson takes on the case of Walter McMillian who was sentenced to the death penalty for the murder of an 18-year-old girl – despite an abundance of evidence that proved his innocence. Working together with local advocate Eva Ansley, the two ultimately work to dismantle the prosecution’s case to try to clear McMillian’s name. The years-long journey they undertake is anything but easy as they navigate the complex political hurdles and unabashed racism at every corner.
